Rooney Celebrates National Rebuilding Day by Working to Upgrade Home in Bergen County

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. – Assemblyman Kevin J. Rooney donned his work clothes Saturday, picked up a hammer and joined a crew of volunteers working to improve a house for a Ridgewood homeowner.
The assemblyman, no stranger to getting his hands dirty, joined other volunteers at a Rebuilding Together North Jersey site to commemorate National Rebuilding Day, which occurs on the last Saturday of April and is celebrated across the country. The assemblyman took park in a renovation project by removing tangled vines from the house and garden and planting new trees.
The mission of Rebuilding Together North Jersey is to provide needed repairs and home modifications to low and moderate income families and senior citizens in Bergen and Passaic counties.  Working with union electricians, skilled plumbers and carpenters, the volunteers upgraded old electrical work and make repairs that improve the quality of life of homeowners.
“Rebuilding Together is a terrific organization that reflects the grassroots neighbor-helping- neighbor philosophy that I grew up with and that makes this nation great,” said Rooney, who represents parts of Bergen, Essex, Morris and Passaic counties.
“We need more organizations like this in New Jersey and throughout the country that call on people and businesses in  the community instead of only relying on government programs, to connect with our neighbors in need,” said Rooney.  The assemblyman has a long history of community service as a volunteer firefighter and supporter of organizations, such as the N.J. Food Pantry and Shore Dreams for Kids.
“I was very honored to be invited to take park in a Rebuild Together project and to meet the many great volunteers who make this organization an effective means of providing help for those who truly need it,” added the assemblyman.
Rooney said that anyone in need of repairs to their homes, or in supporting the organization can call his legislative office (973) 237-1362 to be connected with Rebuild Together or visit their website https://rebuildingtogether.org/.
