Rooney: Murphy tax and spending plan will crush the middle class

TRENTON, N.J. – Assemblyman Kevin J. Rooney (R-Bergen) issued the statement below following Gov. Phil Murphy’s proposed 2019 fiscal year budget:

“It’s extremely disappointing that Governor Murphy is refusing to listen to the desperate cries of our residents who are being forced to leave New Jersey because they simply cannot afford to live here anymore. This tax and spending plan is a direct attack on the middle class.

“We have an obligation to offer our residents the same opportunities today that we have had, and our parents and past generations had to live in an affordable state, not a state that has the worst business climate and highest property taxes in the nation.

“We made good progress during the past eight years to help make New Jersey affordable. We had eight balanced budgets, property taxes were capped and spending was cut. This proposal will crush our families and businesses.”
